ILM Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Management

A Senior Manager who successfully achieves the attainment of the ILM Level 7 NVQ
Diploma in Management has the ability to reformulate and use relevant understanding,
methodologies and approaches to address problematic situations that involve many
interacting factors, including taking responsibility for planning and developing courses of
action that initiate or underpin substantial change or development, as well as exercising
broad autonomy and judgement. It also reflects an understanding of relevant theoretical and
methodological perspectives, and how they affect their area of work.

This is broadly comparable to attainment of master's level degrees from universities.

Qualification Structure

The Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Management has been designed for senior managers with
a high degree of autonomy for deploying resources and achieving strategic goals. The
qualification allows learners to develop their strategic management skills, providing
leadership and coaching to other managers while also focusing on organisational performance
and strategy. Learners take three mandatory units covering the development of strategic
business plans, the strategic direction and leadership of an organisation and leading change
within an organisation. They then choose from a diverse range of optional units to complete
the qualification, tailoring their learning to meet their individual and organisational needs.

Candidates must complete all units from the Mandatory Unit Group A, with a credit value of
23 then select optional units from Optional Units Group B to a minimum value of 15 credits
to gain the qualification requirement of 38 credits.

The mandatory units that learners need to complete are:

• Develop a strategic business plan
• Develop strategic direction and leadership
• Lead Change in an organisation

Qualification assessment

ILM NVQs are assessed using evidence from the workplace. This could include observation,
professional discussion, questioning/interviews/witness testimony, physical products
of work (such as plans, reports, correspondence etc) or other methods allowed within the
QCF. Learners work will be assessed by TPDU assessors.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements however learners, should normally be employed in a
management role to gather evidence from the workplace for assessment. Those not currently
in employment may be able to join the qualification if they are able to gather evidence of
recent senior management experience in a paid or voluntary capacity from within a period of
three years of registration.

Progression

These qualifications have been designed to encourage progression. Candidates may choose
further study in this sector and register for the ILM Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Leadership,
or use the units from these qualifications in different sectors.
