ILM Level 5 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Management
The ILM Level 5 Award, Certificate and Diploma qualifications are specified in terms of the minimum total credits required, and indicate the mandatory units with their respective credit values. Optional units may be selected to meet individual or sponsor’s needs to reach the total

Award – Duration (1) Year
The aim of the programme is to give practising or potential managers the foundation for their formal development in this role, by developing basic middle management skills. To complete one mandatory unit of 4 credits and choose from a list of optional units with a total minimum credit value of 6.
Qualification Structure
The mandatory unit to be completed for the Award qualification is ‘Understanding the management role’
Certificate – Duration (1) Year
The aim of the programme is to give practising or potential managers the foundation for their formal development in this role, by developing basic middle management skills. To complete four mandatory units with a combined credit value of 14 and choose from a list of optional units with a total minimum of 16.
Qualification Structure
The mandatory units to be completed on the Certificate programme are:
- Understanding the management role
- Developing the reflective manager
- Managing improvement
- Making a financial case
The optional units and credits for the Certificate are identified within the course booklet.
Diploma – Duration (1) Year
The aim of the programme is to give practising or potential managers the foundation for their formal development in this role, by developing basic middle management skills. Complete seven mandatory units with a combined credit value of 23 and optional units with a total minimum credit value of 22.

The mandatory units to be completed on the Diploma programme are:
- Understanding the management role
- Developing the reflective manager
- Managing improvement
- Making a financial case
- Developing the manager as a critical thinker
- Leading innovation and change
The optional units and credits for the Diploma are identified within the course booklet.
Qualification Assessment for Award, Certificate and Diploma
All units will be assessed as they count towards the qualification and will be listed on the certificate. ALL assessment criteria within each unit of the programme must be covered
Mandatory and optional units will be assessed either individually or by including integrated
assessments for the Certificate and Diploma. Learners work will be assessed by TPDU assessors.

Successful candidates may benefit from career enhancement and/or progress to any of the
further qualifications listed, according to their circumstances:

ILM Membership
All registered candidates automatically become studying members of the ILM for one year,
free of charge, and can enjoy a range of member benefits accessible through the ILM website.
Studying members are encouraged to upgrade to the appropriate professional grade of
Membership to enjoy additional benefits which would support their career and personal development. Successful completion of a level 5 qualification provides eligibility for a minimum grade of Associate Membership (AMInstLM) of the Institute of Leadership & Management.
