Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults)

Duration (1) Year

This qualification forms part of a new suite of Health and Social Care Diplomas which assess
a learner's competence (that is the skills, knowledge and understanding they have) within a
work situation. The qualification contains a wide range of optional units which will allow
opportunity for competence to be demonstrated in a wide range of contexts.

Each unit has been given a level and credit value and learners will, within the constraints of
the specific rules of combination for the qualification, be able to combine units that reflect
their job role. There is an opportunity for learners to have specialist skills in the care of
individuals with learning disabilities and dementia recognised through endorsed pathways.

The achievement of this qualification will meet the requirements of the workforce for this
sector.

Qualification Structure

This qualification is to guide and assess the development of knowledge and skills relating
to the health and social care workforce. The qualification will be the only qualification
that confirms occupational competence for identified roles in the health and social care
workforce.

The qualification aims are to:

• recognise the learner's understanding of the health and social care workforce
• evaluate the learner's application of knowledge in the workplace
• provide accreditation for the essential knowledge, understanding and competence
needed by those working within the health and social care workforce

Qualification assessment

This qualification will be internally assessed by tPDU staff and externally verified by OCR
External Moderators.

Assessors will conduct observations of learners within their working environment of the
Health and Social Sector, some units may assessed individually, while other units may
be observed and assessed in an integrated format or by using other alternative assessment
methods.

Entry Requirements

This qualification is suitable for those who work within the health and social care workforce.
It provides learners with an opportunity to demonstrate their competence in a wide range of
job roles.

It is aimed at those who may often be working without direct supervision or own their own.
Learners will have a degree of responsibility and autonomy and will be required to make
decisions within boundaries and limits agreed.

Progression

This qualification has been designed to encourage progression. It is anticipated that learners
will progress to Level 5 management or senior practitioner roles in health and social care, or
to specialist qualifications reflecting the context in which they work.
