Overseas Nurses
Programme
The programme is delivered in partnership
with the University of Northampton and consists of 2 modules
delivered full time over 3-6months and has a minimum length
of 20 days. The programme is mandatory for all nurses
qualified overseas who wish to register in the UK.
The Orientation Module will provide an opportunity for you
to develop personal skills, professional expertise and
knowledge through various methods. The orientation module
(20 days) will facilitate the transfer of skills to the UK
health care settings. You will also develop an awareness of
cultural health care and nursing practices in the UK and the
assessment of professional practice. Through this protected
learning, you will gain an understanding of the health care
systems in the UK, the role of health care professionals
within the health service and the culture of nursing
practice. Integral to the module is the concept of patient
centred care in both NHS and independent sector care
settings. Knowledge and understanding is demonstrated
through two written assignments.
The Supervised Practice module runs simultaneously with the
20 days protected learning module. Based on your NMC
decision letter, you will spend time in a clinical area
under the supervision of a mentor. On completion of the ONP
you will be recommended to the NMC for registration on the
professional register and be awarded 40 credits at level 2.
